I started making this taco seasoning mix when I realised how much I was spending on small packets of store bought versions. We all know the big brand. But when you look at the main ingredients you can see what it is and how easy it is to throw together yourself.
You probably have most of the spices sitting in your kitchen cupboard but if you need a replenishment of any then you will still find that in the long run you will save money.
You will see that from the basic ingredients below that tiny packet from the shop must have a huge profit margin.
Another bonus of making your own taco seasoning is that you can adapt it completely to your own tastes. If you don’t like paprika? Then leave it out. Want it hotter or milder? Then adjust the amount or type of chili powder. Easy.
I use it a lot and even more so because it is low carb and a great way to get some spice into my own keto dishes. Jen did a variation of this in her Turkey Taco Bowl.
I love filling keto taco shells with goodness then topping them off with some of this seasoning mix I made up myself earlier.
Yes, another bonus of making it up yourself is that you know exactly what is going into it. No fillers, no nonsense.
To store and keep for future use, place in an airtight container. Then it will always be ready for when you want to add a little of your favourite homemade spice.
