Cherry and Chocolate Chip Bread & butter pudding is one of our all time family favourites. It always tastes great and can be varied depending on whatever is in the cupboard.
This is the recipe for a plain bread and butter pudding, the one I made in the photo had a few handfuls of milk chocolate chips and a pot of glace cherries layered in with the bread and butter, which the kids loved.
The cherries go glazed and are really chewy after being in the oven. Also really nice are any combination of the following, use whatever you’ve got in the cupboard and whatever takes your fancy: candied orange peel, chocolate chips (milk or plain), chopped chocolate, glace ginger, dried cranberries, sultanas or raisins.
Also lovely is spreading the buttered bread with a thick cut orange marmalade, plum jam, apricot jam or ginger jam.
Bread and Butter pudding is my lifelong favourite pudding. I ALWAYS make it on my birthday. I love your idea of chocolate chips and cherries – I’ll have to give it a go!
Thank you!!! Would love to know what you think of it. If you give it a try please let me know.
Best pudding ever + is a good way to use up bread as we never seem to quite get through a loaf before it is no longer any good for sandwiches.
I sometimes put jam on the bread when we don’t have any raisins in the house, but like you mention – it is possible to add pretty much anything to this pudding and it will taste great.
Thank you for your post, I will try with jam, someone has mentioned it’s good with Nutella too. Another version to try 😀
