meatza ready to eat

This meatza recipe is a perfect treat for me living a keto lifestyle. Fat packed, protein packed it is a low carb treat. Here I have topped the meatza (or should I say meatzza?) with cheese, bacon, mushrooms and red onion but of course you can top with whatever keto friendly meat or veg you wish?

That being said you can enjoy a meatza treat whether on keto or not and add whatever you wish on top. Pepperoni, chorizo, green peppers, go for it. It essentially becomes a big tasty cheeseburger with toppings. Yummy. You can also adapt to your own tastes by switching up the herbs used in the base.

served meatza with bacon and cheese on top

I have shown previously how to make a simple keto friendly crusted pizza, but here we go in another direction with a meat fest using mince beef as the base (ground beef in US). It is not only keto friendly, low carb but without the breaded base it is also gluten free, paleo, egg free etc.

Note: If on keto always check mince beef labels in supermarkets. They sometimes add carbs in ways to make it taste better, i.e being sneaky with the ‘low fat’ versions. Find the one with highest fat levels and you will probably find low carbs. Better for being satiated with less as well.

I do find that this is so filling that I can make it last over 2 meals at least.

Ingredients

  • 250 g mince meat/ground beef

  • 100 g cheddar cheese grated

  • 1 tsp oregano

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 5 chopped mushrooms

  • red onion sliced

  • salt and pepper

  • 3 rashers bacon cut into smaller pieces

Directions

  • Pre heat oven to 230C/450F/Gas Mark 6
  • In a bowl, mix together the meat, oregano, garlic powder with the salt and pepper to taste. Keep working it until all combined.
  • Place the mixture on baking paper and flatten out into the desired shape of base you require. This can be easier using another sheet of baking paper over the top. keep flattening it until around 2cm thick.rolled mince meat
  • Place on a baking tray and cook in the oven for around 10 minutes, until the meat has fully browned.
  • When you take it out of the oven you will see that it has shrunk, that is normal. I initially roll mine as wide as possible.
  • Spoon out all the excess fat and water that has come out.cooked mince meat
  • Now to add the toppings.
  • Sprinkle the grated cheese all over the meatza base.
  • Add the bacon, mushrooms and red onion pieces over the top of the cheese. (if you wish then you can pre fry the bacon but thin cuts work like this ok)
  • Place the prepared meatza back into the oven for another 10 minutes to cook the topping. The cheese should be bubbling nicely.

Notes

  • you can add many other herbs to the base as you wish. Maybe mixed spice, chilli. Whatever you like the taste of.

Enjoy your meatza! Oh, and now you also have the recipe for a great topped cheeseburger for a smaller treat.
