This keto creamed leeks recipe using creamed cheese and garlic is so easy and quick to prepare. Great for a quick lunch on its own or as a base or side for a whole lot of other dishes.
Leeks are more adaptable than many people think, and before my keto journey I never really bought them myself. But now they are part of my weekly food shop and I use them in so many ways, including this one.
This recipe has minimal ingredients, in fact only 4, and from start to ready to eat it takes less than 15 minutes.
Leeks are not perfectly keto friendly like other vegetables, such as cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. The average leek contains around 12g of carbs so you will need to watch your portions. That being said, in my daily carb count these are extremely healthy carbs.
If I am making this recipe for myself, I use 2 leeks so I can have it as lunch over 2 or 3 days, or as a side dish. As an alternative to a lunch, this leek recipe is perfect as a side for steaks and chicken.
You can also add chicken directly into the dish to make it a more filling meal.
It is high in fibre and low calorie so any form of diet can benefit from adding leeks to meals.
Leeks are part of the onion family and have a wonderful and distinctive sweet onion flavour. They are said to contain properties that are good for maintaining and protecting our blood vessels amongst other things.
Leeks were thought to contain many health properties back as far as Roman times. Emperor Nero used them to help him with his singing voice. In fact, he ate so many of them that he earned the nickname Porophagus (Leek Eater).
In Ancient Greece, Hippocrates even prescribed leeks as a cure for nosebleeds.
