The Brimstone Luxury Hotel and Spa is nestled in the Langdale Valley of the Lake District. I have often passed it on my way to the glorious walks in the area and had heard many great things about it.
When the opportunity to stay there came up of course I jumped at the chance. I soon became aware that it truly is a luxurious place to relax, enjoy and be spoilt rotten.
The Brimstone Hotel a place that is bold in design and oozes class and comfort. A place to stay that really goes beyond customer care, helping you be as relaxed or as adventurous as you wish.
Once there a whole world opens up in that so much is complementary and included. You can enjoy your luxurious stay and spoil yourself without a need to worry about. It truly is as they say themselves – More than just a hotel.
And the service? Well more on that later too. You won’t forget it.
The Accommodation
From the moment you pull into the complex you can see attention to detail. You are in the centre of the Lake District, in a valley full of wilderness, but neatly hidden amongst the trees are these extremely tasteful suite accommodations full of luxury and great service.
We were in a Mezzanine Suite, a whole 2 floors of bliss to be honest. I have stayed in houses that were smaller.
The list of luxuries, treats and details are too numerous to list here. I will start with an example list:
- Emperor bed with soft Egyptian cotton bedding
- Big and cozy lounge area
- 2 story slate fireplace
- Full minibar and packed treats drawer (of course complimentary)
That is just the start by the way.
Each suite has a unique, discretely hidden, roll top freestanding bath by the lounge area and upstairs there is a spacious and well equipped shower area.
It is hard to show it all in photographs and the scale of the design and comfort.
There is also a lot to make you smile. Small unique things that make you appreciate how really well thought out the place is.
Take the lighting switch modes. There is a button and lighting array for every mood you could want.
Another example: in most places the sewing and boot cleaning kit, shower cap etc is a standard looking item shoved in a cupboard as a perk. Here at Brimstone you get a luxury collection that is gorgeously presented.
These little items and comforts are just a small part of what is available. Too many to keep listing here, you just have to experience it for yourself.
Speaking of well thought out items. For when you go hiking etc there are reusable water bottles for you to freely take, use and keep.
If you want to enjoy a wine direct from the accommodation then there is a private balcony that looks over into the trees so you can also relax and unwind out there too. Maybe even catch the sight of a red squirrel that are abundant in these parts.
And can I simply say, that huge and luxurious emperor bed gives you the most amazing sleep indeed. Also I realised that the curtains are incredible at keeping the light out. In fact when the day had started I assumed I had woke too early and it was still pitch black outside?
No, the curtains gave that impression, I had slept well and was up just in time to enjoy the room service and a lovely Cumbrian breakfast.
Service and Complimentary Food and Drinks
I must take the time here to talk about the service and what is on offer within the building. From the moment you arrive you are treated like a special guest with a concierge type service.
Genuine warm greetings and smiles all the way as you are shown to your accommodation with every question you could have, answered before you could ask them.
No stuffy reception, no queueing and waiting in a foyer. Once you park up, in the dedicated underground car park and press the call button, you are met and they come to you.
The host/concierge will deliver all they can to you at your room. Fancy a picnic? They are on call and if it can be done they will do it, honestly.
On the way to the apartments you are shown what you get complimentary. And it goes way beyond the complimentary mini bar in the room.
There is a reading room, with lovely decor I might add, where you can help yourself to a whole range of food and drinks. Wine, local beers and soft drinks constantly stocked up. Help yourself to a bottle to enjoy on your balcony, why not?
Help yourselves to some lovely snacks too. These change regularly throughout the day. Need a sandwich for your hike that day? Come here and take a complimentary one.
It is not just sandwiches and snacks. In the afternoon I could not resist a lovely scone with fresh cream and jam.
I really enjoyed the concierge type service. Not only are they available to help at any time with a call, they come up with many lovely surprises during your stay.
We were debating having a glass of wine when there was a knock at the door from a member of the staff. They had come bearing gifts: some freshly made complimentary cocktails. Bonus!
The Brimstone Spa
You want more treats that is included in your stay at Brimstone? Well as a guest here you get complimentary access to the spa too!
Open all the way from 10am to 8pm you can come from your luxury accommodation and pamper yourself more in the spa.
As with the Brimstone main building you are taken on a journey using the Lake District as inspiration. From Finnish sauna to ice fountain. From the thermal experience to relaxing outside with views of the Langdale Valley surrounding you. It is a unique experience to immerse yourself in.
As with the accommodation there is too much to list here for the spa. I could go on and on. More offerings include: Himalayan salt spa, lava sauna, mineral steam bath and an ‘experience shower’.
So so much more and a big array of treatments are available from 10am to 6pm.
More Than Just A Bootroom
OK, many hotels in the Lake District naturally have a bootroom. However, no bootroom like this.
The room has you covered with every item of walking equipment and clothing you could need for a day on the fells. From waterproof boots to jackets of all sizes and types.
If you didn’t bring your walking gear then you have nothing to worry about. Brimstone has you covered. Again, complimentary.
Dining At The Stove Restaurant
For lunches and dinner you do not of course have to stay with the complimentary foods. And if you do not wish to travel out for dining then their Stove Restaurant is just a 2 minute walk away.
The menu at The Stove was a mix of contemporary and classics. Not overloaded but still gave options hard to choose from.
The food is sourced local wherever possible. For instance the lamb is local Herdwick and pigeon breast smoked in their own smokehouse at Castle Stile.
After a day hiking I was really hungry and the burger sounded lovely:
We were debating dessert when along came another surprise. Someone somewhere, maybe from the booking, realised it was my birthday.
A plate with delicious chocolates and a message suddenly appeared. Nice! Thank you.
Conclusion
The reputation of The Brimstone Hotel and Spa most certainly precedes it. I had heard so many wonderful stories from people who had stayed there.
Now I have experienced it I can truly say you are spoiled rotten with remarkable service, amazing accommodation that goes beyond your dreams and the list of what is complimentary is massive and then some.
And that is before you forget where you are situated in the world, the gorgeous Langdale Valley of The Lake District.
Give you or your loved ones a treat; stay at The Brimstone.
