It was time to head out of Baku again and back up to the north and the mountains, in the Gusar area and right up in Shahdag National Park. On all my visits I have been watching the continuing construction of a super ski resort up by Shahdag Mountain.. and this time the luxury had arrived at the slopes.
The whole resort has been transformed to allow many families, couples and adventurers to escape, explore or ski the area. Glaciers, snow covered peaks, frozen waterfalls and panoramas galore await any visitor. Accommodation comes in at all levels from cottages, budget hotels to absolute luxury, right by the ski lifts and mountains. Winter and Summer will each have much on offer from the snow lovers to the nature and trail lovers. Golf courses, aqua park and trails.. This is truly a new year round escape. Of course it would have been rude not to have savoured the luxury and it comes in heaps at Pik Palace.
Straight from the moment you walk in from the cool fresh air to the reception area with heated marble floors.
For the luxurious end of the spectrum of a stay at the resort then it doesn’t take long to realise you have stepped into the right place. One minute sat, relaxed in luxury but remembering that literally right outside the door you can just wander to the slopes and ski lifts.
Sometimes, myself, I have found in my travels that luxury can take the edge of a comfortable and relaxed stay, some of you will understand what I mean. However at Pik Palace I found the atmosphere and warm reception lovely. As I wandered the lower level I found area after area, each catering for different tastes in cuisine and style. All with wonderful elegance, design, decor and service.
From full on dinner service, to a chocolat cafe, to a spectacularly designed asian experience. Choices choices choices. Bars for all occasions on offer too wether you are having cocktails, apres-ski or a quiet drink before a meal. Relax…. and cheers!
Oh, and then you can take on the wine tasting area 😉
There is of course a bar by the pool. I can handle that… In fact there is a whole plethora of options for health, fitness and after ski/hike relaxation. Massage, spa, one of the most futuristic gyms I have seen, saunas, whirlpools and the bathing pools one in and one landscaped outside.
Now then, the rooms. Big, spacious and luxurious throughout is how I could quickly describe them. I thought I had entered the honeymoon suite or something when on a little tour when in fact I was told that it was one of the smaller ones and bigger ones to come throughout! Large marble bathrooms complete with enormous baths with separate walk in showers. Seating areas or king size beds where you can sit or lie in wonder looking out the large windows over to the snow topped mountains.
I was loving the decor and the thought that had gone into each and every inch of the place. I love seeing the fine details and could see that comfort and design had been excellently produced for each and every room and area in its own unique way.
With all this comfort and temptations around it was hard to tear myself away to see some more great outdoors of the area. One thing I will say is that if you are after a whole new, fresh place to ski and explore then Shahdag, Azerbaijan is definitely a winner! I know for a fact that here is where I will improve my quite diabolical ski skills in future when I return. With a whole lot of comfort and luxury too at Pik Palace
