After the fun on the ranch it was time to move on down to the City of Saskatoon in the Province of Saskatchewan. The wide open prairie led us up river and a glorious new day began…
A perfect day to canoe down the wide open South Saskatchewan River and enjoy peace on the water with nature. The wonderful guides and experts from Canoe Ski briefed us up and got us ready.. It was time to get on the water.
It was blue skies and little wind. Perfect weather for it.. We had started up stream and the plan was to paddle our way calmly back down into Saskatoon.
The peace of it all really struck me. The only noises where the calls of Geese and our paddles moving through the water.. What a wonderful way to enjoy a few hours.
The scenery was quite remarkable too.. The trees turning fall colours on the banks. The sand meeting the water creating a super effect to the naked eye. At the rest point chilling on the sand it was like one of the most secluded beaches you can imagine. Off the tourist track, perfect.
Skirting round sandbanks, under great bridges you move closer to the City. Birds flocking overhead or on the shore create more exquisite sights and you find yourself having many of this moments where you stop paddling.. Just to look around and enjoy where you are.
After a while Saskatoon could be seen ahead.. Inviting you in with each stroke. Docked, canoes cleaned, refreshed. After the adventure it was time for a chill at the wonderful Delta Bessborough, Saskatoon. What a wonderful wonderful time.
That shot of Saskatoon coming into view is great. I haven’t been out canoeing in a decade or so, but I miss seeing that. My dad was a marathon canoer so he always took us out as kids, but I should get re-involved with the sport, at least recreational. I certainly have all the equipment to go out and do it.
I know this post is a bit old, but I just stumbled upon it. Hope you had a great time here!
Loved my time in Saskatoon. Was a beautiful day on the river
My first trip from the US to Canada was by canoe…really enjoyed the photos.
sounds an adventure Charlie 🙂 ty
Looks like a great paddling experience. Nice photos!
Your canoe trip makes me think of how many hundreds of years travellers before you have canoed through Canada, and how exotic someplace like Saskatchewan seems through the eyes of someone who does not see or know of the every day wild beauty that Canada has to offer, the way we Canadians do!
Sounds like a great adventure! And not too strenuous either. Could be something for me as well …
Go for it Monika, you will never regret it.. Thx very much
Canada (my country) is really one of the most beautiful country on earth! Tha sad thing is that most people think that there’s nothing to do in the Prairies but you are proving them wrong!
Enjoy the rest of your stay!
It truly is beautiful.. And yes so do much to do.. Absolutely
