Situated in Western Europe, France is a popular tourist destination with its well known capital city of Paris. Equally captivating, however, are the country’s medieval villages and mountains in the alpine regions.
The capital city is seen as romantic and historic, home to the Louvre museum, which is the largest historic landmark and art museum in Paris. When thinking of Paris, most automatically conjure up images of the Eiffel Tower at 324 metres (1,063 ft) tall. This is roughly the same height as an 81-storey building! The tallest monument in Paris is named after its creator, Gustave Eiffel, and was built between 1887 and 1889 as the entrance to the World’s Fair.
France is the largest country in the European Union and is famed for its wines and cuisine. Its Mediterranean beaches are one the most popular holiday destinations for fun, sea, and sun. The wine regions are, of course, popular as well, and are less busy while remaining relaxed and friendly.
Being the largest country in Europe, there are certainly a wealth of experiences to choose from. From the highest mountain ranges to hike and climb, to the best vineyards for wine tasting, such as those in the Champagne Region, there is something for everybody at all budgets.
Some tourists visit for the renowned art and historic landmarks, while others may want to relax on a sandy beach, which also offer a wide variety of options to choose from. The beaches of southern France, for example, Cannes, are a world away from the beaches of Northern France.
