If you want a campsite in the Lake District, Cumbria that is walking distance to Keswick centre and is literally on the shores of Derwentwater, the Keswick Camping and Caravanning Club Site is for you.
I was wanting a digital break for a few days, walking in the lakes, so I packed my tent and had my spot booked at the campsite. It is a perfect base if you want the town of Keswick plus the joys of Borrowdale all in one. It is also perfect for those that enjoy watersports.
Location
In many of my travels to the Lake District I have wanted to base myself near to the Keswick area. I can then use it as a base for so many walks and hikes in areas I love.
The Keswick Camping and Caravanning Club Site is on Crow Park Road, Keswick, CA12 5EP.
As I was putting up the tent I looked around and each direction and saw so much that this area gives, in one view.
For a start, the mountain of Skiddaw is framed gorgeously behind.
And then out in front of us was literally the view all the way down Derwentwater.
The unmistakeable view of Cat Bells is right in the front of the scene too. Not a bad view at all as you sit, relax and have some dinner or a drink.
The thing that tops this off though is the location’s proximity to the centre of Keswick itself. It is literally less than a 10 minute walk away. So after a day on the water or hiking you can so easily go and have dinner out in one of the many spots the town has to offer, knowing you can literally stroll back to your tent, motorhome or caravan.
Facilities
For all your camping needs then there is plenty on offer. I found the toilet/shower blocks to be extremely clean. There is a shop on site for basic needs but with the shops of Keswick being such a short walk away you won’t need this as much as you might at other sites.
Here is a list of some of the services on offer:
- Showers/Toilets
- Wifi
- Basic shop
- Laundry
- Dishwashing facilities
- Motorhome Service Point
- Children’s playground
- Backpacker facilities
Watersports are a big reason some people come to this site and with good reason, literally being by the water’s edge.
The cost to launch canoes, paddleboards, boats, etc on the water from here has just a small daily cost of around £3 – £6.
Types Of Pitch Available
I was there with my tent but the Keswick site has pitches for a vast array of camping vehicles, all the way up to large motorhomes and caravans.
- Grass pitch no electric
- Grass pitch with electric hook-up
- Grass pitch with electric hook-up for larger vehicles
- Hardstanding with electric hook-up
- Hardstanding (Super Service) with own water and drainage at the pitch.
Camping Pods
If you want to stay here but not in your own camping accommodation then there are 2 gorgeous camping pods available. Each one can fit up to 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children. The decking out front faces the lake too.
Dog Friendly
The Keswick Camping and Caravanning Club site is very dog friendly.
I saw lots of dogs here and there are plenty walking not just on site but also just outside. We are in the Lakes and in Borrowdale by Derwentwater after all! Malc and Pete love camping trips and here they could get lots of fresh air with of course access to the lake nearby as they do love being around water.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a Lake District camping adventure with lots of facilities, amazing views and access to the lovely town of Keswick then Keswick Camping and Caravanning Club Site is ideal.
It truly is in a glorious spot and the staff are wonderful and so happy to help with anything from check in all the way to tips for the local area.
