An indulgent chocolate cake that’s delicious and fun to bake. The unusual ingredient is the stout or Guinness which adds to the flavour and moisture.
I have enjoyed baking this and I’m planning to make another one in the holiday season to share with friends and family.
The finished look depends on whether you want a classic look with the rich chocolate of the cake paired with a rich creamy frothy top resembling a well poured glass of Guinness, or if you want chocolate flakes on the top. It’s your call.

Storage
Can be stored in the fridge for a few days once iced, or the cake can be frozen without frosting in a freezer proof container for up to a month.
Tips
I find a solid base cake tin works better than a spring form one, I found out through practice, but do remember to fully line and prepare the tin with greaseproof paper, (parchment.)
Conclusion
Enjoy your cake together with friends or family as a treat or for special occasions.
This recipe is already becoming a firm favourite in our family. It’s surprisingly moist and tasty without being overly sweet or heavily chocolaty, the Guinness flavour doesn’t overpower the cake either, it just adds to the moisture and balances it out nicely.
I can recommend giving this cake recipe a try even if you aren’t usually a Guinness drinker. If you’re perhaps thinking it’s too complicated, it will actually surprise you as you take it step by step and you’ll soon have this recipe on your special occasions list just like me. It’s rich and indulgent so eat in moderation. Have fun baking and enjoy.
